About your Web address
- Why should I register a Web address?
- Your Web address is what customers will use to access your products and services on-line. It starts to establish your Internet Identity. We provide Web address registration with a simple and easy way to upgrade to Peronalized Electronic Mail and Web Hosting so you can grow your Internet presence.
- How long can my Web address be?
- A Web address can be up to 26 characters long including the 4 characters used to identify the top-level domain .COM, .NET and .ORG. "www." and http://www. are not considered to be part of your Web address. One example is "sbcwebhosting.com" that is a valid Web address containing 17 characters.
- What are the valid characters for my Web address?
- Letters and numbers are valid characters in a Web address. Hyphens may also be used in a Web address, but may not begin nor end your Web address. Spaces and special characters, such as exclamation points (!) and underscores (_) are not allowed in Web addresses.
- What is a Domain Name (Web address)?
- A Domain Name is a unique alpha-numeric name used to identify a particular computer (i.e. Web server or mail server) on the Internet. Domain names allow Internet users to type in a name, such as BizName.com, to identify a numeric address such as 206.123.50.104. The purpose of domain names is to allow ordinary users connected to the Internet to find Web sites and send email to addresses with familiar names such as "BizName.com" or "sbc.com" without having to memorize the numerical addresses that actually locate the computers or servers on the Internet.
- How do I find out if the Domain Name (Web address) I want is available?
- Start the registration process and Nevada Bell Internet Services' software will determine if the name is available automatically as part of the registration process.
Domain Name Registration
- How long will it take to process my registration?
- You will have access to your Nevada Bell Internet Services' Online Administration page as soon as you fill out the Web pages. Your registration request with the Internet's Domain Name Servers will be processed immediately.
Your Web address will be available in the Internet's Domain Name Servers in generally less than 24 hours so customers can find your Web address. Some requests are processed in minutes, depending on the time of day you register and when the Domain Name Servers are updated
- How long will it take for my Web address to be visible on the Internet?
- Please allow 24 to 48 hours for processing for your Web address to be propagated to the Internet Domain Name Servers.
Your Web address is registered as a Domain Name. The database at Network Solutions with Domain Names will be updated. The database information is shared and replicated with the Internet's zone files world wide. This sharing process is called "propagation."
- What is propagation on the Internet?
- Internet zone files are propagated with new information daily, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Data is replicated across many name servers. We cannot control the rate at which the millions of name servers on the Internet are updated, but if your registration reaches the systems by 7 p.m. Eastern Time, your information should be visible on the Internet the following day.
- How do I determine the status of my Web address registration?
- You can check http://www.nsiregistry.com to see when your name is available in the root domain name servers to be propagated to other name servers.
- What does a Name Server do?
- The Name Servers have the data required to resolve Web addresses to Internet Protocol (IP) numbers that ensure your customers find you on the Internet. Multiple name servers ensure that your Web address, or future Web site, will continue to be visible to the Internet community even if one of the servers fails.
DO NOT change your name servers while hosting your Domain Name, Personalized Electronic Mail, or Web Site with us. The result will be your hosting option will become unavailable to other users on the Internet.
- Do I need two (2) name servers in my Internet record?
- Yes. You will see two name servers in your Domain Name's Internet record. The Domain Name Registration Agreement with Network Solutions requires that at least two name servers be listed for each Web address. We automatically set up these servers in your registration record and put your Web address on our servers.
- How long a period of time is the registration with Network Solutions?
- Your registration period with Network Solutions will be for two (2) years. The 2 year registration period is provided as the result of the Seventy Dollar ($70) payment to Network Solutions. You will be ipacoiced by electronic mail to the contact email name you provided during registration.
- Can I alias Domain Names?
- You can use Domain Affiliation with Web addresses that you registered with Nevada Bell Internet Services based on the original "Bizname.com", extending to BizName.net and BizName.org. The definition of Domain Alias will vary by the source. There are multiple definitions of the same term used by different people.
- Can I get a refund if I do not want the Web address (Domain Name) I Registered?
- We are sorry. Nevada Bell Internet Services and Network Solutions do not refund domain registration fees. However, you can choose not to renew when the Nevada Bell Internet Services one (1) year, or Network Solutions two (2) year registration period is over.
- Why is the registration process for DSL with Domain Names different?
- Your use of DSL will determine which Name Servers chosen. Advanced users of DSL will utilize the Name Servers specific to their DSL line and application to allow for customization, such as www.shop.YourBiz.com, for a transaction processing Web server separate from your main Web site. Another example is customers host their own mail servers with us, standard, but on a customized basis host their own mail servers, such as Microsoft Exchange, or IBM Lotus Notes.
We want to provide you with the service required as your Internet presence grows.
