SERVICE FEATURES

What Top Level Domains will you register?
Nevada Bell Internet Services currently registers the .com, .net, and .org top level domains supported by the InterNIC. However, we make it easy for you to move and host any top level domain with Nevada Bell Internet Services’ Shared Web Hosting service with our step by step instructions

What are domain pointers and domain aliases?
A domain alias (sometimes referred to as a domain pointer) is a domain name that points to another domain. You use it to allow your customers or users to access your Web sites or e-mail with different URLs or e-mail addresses. At the same time, you do not have to manage multiple Web sites or e-mail.

Domain pointers and domain aliases are a way to increase Web site traffic and visibility. For instance, if you own the url "yourbusinessname.com," you can then point "yourbusinessname.net" and "yourbusinessname.org" so that all traffic goes to "yourbusinessname.com". You must also register "yourbusinessname.net" and "yourbusinessname.org" in order to point them to "yourbusinessname.com." The second two domain names will each incur a charge of $70 for two years with Network Solutions, billed directly by email. The benefit is that your unique domain name is reserved with the additional extensions of .NET and .ORG. You can add domain pointers at the time you sign up for your service or later through your control panel..

Tell me about Multiple Domain Names & IP addresses?
We offer the ability to point additional domain names to your Web site for a one-time fee of $10.00 (plus appropriate InterNIC fees). Please note that you will need to register your additional domain names. If you intend to have active Web pages on your additional domain names, you may require separate Shared Web Hosting accounts to manage your additional sites.

What is the operating system of your Web server?
Nevada Bell Internet Services offers UNIX solutions with Sun Solaris server platforms.

What speed will the access to my Web site be?
Nevada Bell Internet Services’ high performance Web servers are connected to the Internet through a DS3 (45 Mbps), OC-3 (155.52 Mbps) connection. What does this mean? Basically, that your customers will be able to access your Web site and get the information they want fast, even during peak demand periods.

Will my Web site have redundant connections to the Internet?
Yes, Nevada Bell Internet Services’ Web servers are connected to the Internet via diverse, high-speed connections. That means even if our primary connection fails, your customers will still be able to reach your Web site.

How often is my Web site information backed up?
We perform tape backups of any changes to your Web site information daily and perform a backup of the entire server weekly. All backup tapes stored off-site, giving your Web site maximum protection.

How is Web server security maintained?
Nevada Bell Internet Services has many different active forms of security on its server site. These security measures include firewalls, encryption, user id and password authentication as well as physical measures that ensure a secure and environmentally controlled location.

What about Web server maintenance and upgrades?
We continuously maintain and upgrade our Shared Web Hosting servers to ensure the best performance for your Web site.

What kind of traffic reporting is available?
Nevada Bell Internet Services’ online reporting tools will enable you to access reports on the hits, traffic, and visitors from your Web site. We also allow customers to download standard Web server log files. With these logs, customers can analyze data and generate their own reports using the software of their choice.

What if I exceed my allotted storage or site traffic usage?
Because you never want to turn a customer away from your Web site, we guarantee to support all traffic directed to your Web site. If you exceed the storage included in your selected bill plan, we will automatically notify you and provide you with additional storage. If you exceed the standard amount in subsequent months, you may want to consider upgrading to a higher service level.

What happens if my Web site outgrows your service?
Nevada Bell Internet Services’ Shared Web Hosting service is designed to handle as large or small a Web site as you require. You can upgrade at any time simply using your online real time administrative control panel, so your Web presence can grow with your business. SUPPORT FEATURES

Do you support Microsoft Front Page 98 and Front Page 2000 extensions?
Yes, Nevada Bell Internet Services’ Shared Web Hosting service supports both Microsoft Front Page 98 and Front Page 2000 extensions. Front Page server extensions gives you full support of remote authoring, threaded discussion groups, full text search, surveys and so much more.

What are Front Page server extensions?
FrontPage server extensions are CGI programs that provide the server side implementation of FrontPage. FrontPage communicates with the extensions via Hyper Text Transmission Protocol (HTTP) using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC).

When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to the FrontPage server extensions it simply directs the request to the appropriate CGI program. The extensions implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, To Do Lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and administrator privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time WebBot components).

Without the FrontPage Server Extensions you will not be able to take advantage of the WebBots that are available through FrontPage. Also, without the extensions you cannot author and administer your web using the tools provided as part of the FrontPage Editor/Explorer package.

What is a CGI script?
A CGI script is an interface between an application that allows your site to do something interactive or dynamic and the Web server. All Nevada Bell Internet Services Shared Web Hosting customers automatically have access to our CGI library of scripts, including hit counters, message boards, form to e-mail, and search.

Do you support Secure Socket Layer (SSL)?
Yes, Nevada Bell Internet Services supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the security protocol that encrypts all of your connections with a Web server. We can set you up on our shared SSL server for $10 with a Bronze package or at no additional charge with any of our other core Shared Web Hosting plans, which will allow you to transact secure business for free.

How do I upload my Web site content?
Shared Web Hosting service includes an online administrative control panel that shows you how to upload your content to your new Web site. Using simple file transfer protocol (FTP) to upload your content, your Web site can be ready for customers to visit in a matter of minutes.

How do I update my Web site and when do the changes take effect?
You can upload content for your Shared Web Hosting site using FTP. It can be done from anywhere on the Internet, whether you are connected via a dedicated or dial-up connection. All you need is the FTP address, user ID and password and any FTP client. Files are uploaded directly to your Web site - there is NOT a staging server. Updates are made immediately once the FTP session has been successfully completed.

Do you support end-user FTP for my customers?
Shared Web Hosting customers cannot set-up an FTP (file transfer protocol) site to allow their customers to upload or download files from the server. This practice is called " Anonymous FTP " and it conflicts with the security that we have in place on our Web servers. However, customers can provide almost the same functionality using HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) instead of FTP.

Can someone at SBC help me fix my web pages?
Our technical staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you in troubleshooting your web site. However, our customer support can not actually help you debug your HTML, ASP, or Perl code as this requires highly skilled programmers.

Where do customers go for help?
We offer 24x7x365 support for all Shared Web Hosting customers via live phone or email support.
